Smashing life? You better believe it. Or am I?

I’ve read so many blogs in recent months about people smashing it.

They’re writing popular blogs. They’ve got great lives. They’re successful. They’re working fewer hours for more money. It’s always sunny where they live. The birds sing sweetly. Etc.

I’m not sure I buy it.

I’ve discovered that far too many people are selling the idea of a successful life… and making money out of it in some weird, self-fulfilling prophecy.

I’m one of those strange people who enjoys his job, loves spending time with his family, has interesting hobbies and is never bored.

I’m surprised that after that paragraph, you’re still reading this.

But I wanted to share that it’s completely ok not to be perfect or to have that 4-hour week on $100,000 a year while living in one of your four apartments in California.

It’s ok to have a ‘normal’ job and to enjoy it. I work in employee communications for a bank. The description doesn’t sell it. But I enjoy it. It’s tough some days; it’s fun and enjoyable for the rest of the time. I have a laugh with my colleagues. It could be a LOT worse.

I don’t earn silly amounts of money; similarly, I’m not worrying every week about bills.

I’m not quietly quitting, nor am I grinding away hour after hour at my desk, working long hours to earn my pay.

I believe in hard work to make a living rather than getting rich quickly or screwing others over to get ahead.

I guess I’m an average Joe who has dreams and aspirations but also counts his blessings and cherishes what he has.

While there’s always someone with a ‘better’ life than yours, learn to appreciate what you have, chip away at your goals and passions, and don’t be fooled by these internet bloggers selling you something that they probably don’t even have themselves.
